The sun was setting after a glorious day
The sky shades of bright yellow to orange
To reds and lavender to purple tinged with gray
Then gone..left me feeling alone a bit forlorn

Then the moon in all her splender crept into the sky
Showing what had been black was alive with beauty
All seen through the silvery light quietly moving by
Chasing shadows clearing visions helping me see

Sounds take on shape and clear to my eyes
The moon beams streaming behind the tree tops
An owl high in the branches sees something then flies
Geese in formation winging to join the other flocks

The quiet broken by calls and wings and running feet
Rustling of leaves snapping branches as creatures look for prey
Becoming life or death in this game of hide and go seek
Not all creatures will be alive to start the new day

Moon light is so different than the feeling of sun light
I feel closed in or behind waiting for something
Looking up to see movement of clouds in flight
Knowing soon the birds will begin to sing

Suddenly all is silent and inky black and closed in
No sound everything holding its breath..waiting
And then like a spark or smoke on the wind
The flame spreads red to gold and night is ending

very vivid images here..nicely done. the night indeed has a thousand eyes.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Somethings we forget that there is beauty in the night(dark).  And of course the real beauty is that after the dark there is always a new day

This is an exquisite description of the mystery and beauty of both, night and the dawning of a new day.
Beautiful!

I used to be afraid to walk in the dark alone, but not anymore. I've come to know and understand it through someone born into the dark, and his words have given me new perspectives. I enjoyed the read, and the nature imagery is fantastic! I hear an owl, and felt the chilling fear of the night hunt, and the knowledge that not all creatures will greet the day....including many two-leggeds. Thanks, ME.

Midnitesun, I tell myself I am not afraid of the dark either and most of the time I am right. Glad you liked this,  ME
