Sinking swiftly
The beauty of the World vanishes
The cold ice around my heart thickens
My thoughts turn against me
I settle in for the storm

Crying softly
I surrender to the dark demons
The pitiless memories purge my mind
And a scream escapes me
I am now physically spent

Shuddering violently
The dark cloak surrounds me
"Will I live through this?"
I question myself as I lay back
Hoping it is all over now

Rocking methodically
I try to regain my sanity
Hoping I did not lose something important
Something that holds me apart
The something I need to be me

Scrambling wildly
I search for this quality within me
To pull apart the memories
Push back these ugly demons
To find the beauty within

Reckognizing suddenly
I cannot remember a time
Not a single instance I was free
From this darkness plaguing me
Have they won me?

Very impressive!  Even demons can't stand against prayer!

Dark, troubling, and very well conveyed. I sincerely hope you're OK.

The title grabbed me,, and I am glad it did..
a sad song it is that you sing-- but joy can and will return--

well done Jamie--

2dalimit: Thank you for reading and thanks for your concern.  I am okay...this one was written a while ago in my dark times...but I'm a little above that now!

Jamie:  Well, I'm glad that you took the time to read this!     True, this is only a small space in time and things do get better.  A good friend of mine used to say, "Sometimes it's not what you do, but how you view it..."  Maybe I just needed to change the filter!

wordancer:  Truth in your words...thanks for reading!

Sol:  Hey...thanks.  You know me, I'm just full of surprises! hehehe

Pegasus:  Yup...full of surprises.  Most of the time I surprise myself!     No worries though...'member we poets can always switch the filter we see life through, if we want to badly enough!   Thanks for getting through this one!
