My Dog and I

On mornings when it's warm and fair,
My dog is always waiting there
At the door, when I get up,
Acting frisky as a pup.
On days when rain is in the air,
I can't find him anywhere
And when I do, to put him out,
He hangs his head and seems to pout.
He walks so slowly to the door
Like he was old and feeling poor.
Dejectedly, he inches out.
Stands there looking all about.
Turns and stares reproachfully,
Then wanders over to a tree.
He waits until he's back inside,
To shake the rain drops from his hide,
So I can share the wetness too.
I deserve it in his view!

He flops before the fireplace.
A martyred look upon his face
And while I laugh, I still can see
He's not so different from me.
My eagerness to go outdoors,
Is pretty tepid when it pours!

Trillium, I love this!  I hope the dog isn't a hunter.  They do seem to tell us off sometimes.  Great poem,  ME

I like dogs. I like this poem about dogs.  I'm going to let my dog inside.

This brought wonderful memories to my mind Trillium ... wonderful imagery! I've seen those looks many times, and you've got me just smiling at the thought of it. Thank you so much for this delightful morning read. You started off my day with a big grin, much enjoyed.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Dogs are wonderful and so is your darling poem.  My aged cat is fearful of his own shadow so I have put off getting another dog until he is no longer here.  He is about 14 years and deserves some peace and quiet.  Happy New Year to you Betty.  Love,Joyce

lovely poem of dog and its master.

Thank you one and all for your delightful comments!  Dogs are wonderful pets, but we also love our cats.  We just lost our oldest cat a month ago.  She was 23 years old!!  Couldn't believe she managed to live so long.

Happy New Year to all of you!

I had to smile when I read this. I have 2  dogs that stay in most of the time, and think they are human.
I think there loyalty and the love they freely share, makes it all worth while.
Really cute poem.

Deb:  Thanks for your remarks.  We have two dogs too.  Both large!  They also think they are human and act like kids! It's amazing to me how much they understand of what they hear.  We even spell out words in front of them.  How bad is that?
