This is a story about Muff, a wee Mouse
Who lived in an old ramshackled farm house--
But not in peace, for Fritz lived there too,
A Cat who enjoyed giving Muff the blues!

Fritz also much annoyance knew,
For there lived a Dog, known as Ol'Blue--
Who didn't bother the mouse at all,
But in rustling poor Fritz, he sure had a ball!

And last but not least, was a kindly old Gent,
Whose Love and Care on his Critters was spent--
They were all the family he knew for so long,
Yet he was grieved by their meanish goings on.

He tried his best to get them to behave,
And love one another-for that's all they had--
But it seemed their nature took control,
And strife prevailed, their peace to assail!

So one Christmas Eve, this kindly poor gent,
With no extra money, on prayer's knee was bent--
"Dear Lord, I would You look down on us so small,
I ask believing in Your power over all.

Just for a moment, yes, even a day,
May all my household show love's peace, I pray--
And may we know the Joy of each other,
Without any strife, and so be together."

The old man in tears, touched by the thought,
Blew out the candle to the bed he had brought--
He knew in his heart, all would benefit,
If his prayer came true, and he meant it.

In dim light that Christmas began,
As a day of blessing did fill the land--
At first he ne'er noticed, this kindly old man
Things were all quiet, just where were his clan?

He came down the stairs, on his cane he did lean,
To see a sight, that he'd never seen--
There on the rug sat a gruop of three,
All peaceful and calm in sweet unity!

Muff was so happy-so obviously pleased,
With the big hunk (he had Colby cheese),
That Fritz and brought her-upon strange impulse,
A kindly jesture with goodly results.

And that was not all, for on this magic day,
Ol'Blue was so peaceful, unmindful of play--
He too found a busy-ball for his long time foe,
So long that was missing, Fritz purred with a glow!

So stunned by the sight, and not wanting to stare,
The old man eased down in his easy chair--
And one by one, they all came with a snuggle,
'Til all filled his lap, and he started to giggle!

"I ne'er would have thought in all of my days,
To witness such love, o'ercomming past ways--
A Cat, a Dog, a Man and a Mouse,
Now all together as one in this house!"

Was he just dreaming, he didn't think so,
It seemed strange but real- this Critter Trio--
All day was a wonder of sharing Love bright,
And kind interaction with mutual delight.

When ebbed the dark shadows of night comming on,
All warmed and filled with the day that was done--
He hugged them all for the love they had shown,
And climbed the stairs of his most peaceful home.

He stooped by his bed, his prayer to convey,
"Oh thank You, Dear Lord, for this most perfect day!
You answered my prayer, and we all were so blest,
We had perfect Love, with true caring and zest.

I do not know what tomorrow may bring,
They all may be back to doing their thing--
But I hope in some way, they may never forget,
This day we all had--can still happen yet!"

Merry Christmas Every One!

This is wonderful!! I am speechless! Great thoughts here.

You have walk carefully in the beginning of love; the running across fields into your lover's arms can only come later when you are sure they won't la

We have just taken in a stray cat and are trying to get the resident two, plus two big dogs to love one another.  We are making progress and they can all be in the same space together now, so I have high hopes for Christmas Day!  Have a merry one!

Thank you for this. I missed it for Christmas, but it's the kind of story I could read every day. I am saving this one in my fav folder.
