A day to use for my very own,
a day that's been unplanned.
This busy season is so full,
unscheduled time is banned.

I was called to jury duty,
all other obligations erased.
The case dismissed, I have a day,
when no work need be faced.

Shall I make another pan of fudge
or bake that pumpkin pie,
or get every single present wrapped,
before the day goes by?

It is so pleasant to be given
this relaxed day at home.
I know exactly what I'll do.
I'll sit down and write a poem.

(I was resentful of having jury duty during this busy season, but I rescheduled everything to get it in.  Now I have today and tomorrow with a little free time to read your poetry and maybe write a little of my own.)

Joyce~
WONDERFUL FOR YOU~

And pleased you took the time to report for jury duty~
So many try to 'fib' their way out of it ...
I'm proud to serve when called~
The pay is lousy ... but duty calls us all~

Now ... make some fudge AND write a poem or two~

Glad to see that you didn't spend that free time, making fudge or baking pie or wrapping presents, that you gave yourself and us a poem instead.

Sometimes it is hard to take the time for ourselves, I use to be so guilty about that...gave everyone else time, but myself.

Dear Joyce; How wonderfully magical to have a gift of a day all fresh and empty of obligations and didn't you choose exactly the right thing to do with it?  Love, Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.
