"Hello, can you hear me...so far away?"

Heard a song echo through my heart just now,
while I was standing beside the cold, dark window.
Was that your voice that resonates across my soul?
Is it you, I see wandering in the stormy night?
I reach out, to trace pictures in my misty breath,
haunted by images of the distant past.
So softly, I send your thoughts back to you.
Do their calls linger in the canyons of your heart?

"Hello, can you hear me...so far away?"

The storm thunders on;
heavy winds drown out silent words.
Lighting slashes the dark and briefly I see you lost
in the ebony reflections of your anger.
Closer to the pane I lean to stare at my lonely face;
lost in the shadows of my heart I see you that are gone.
My thirsty lips touch the bitter window and through
the incomprehensible glass I am unable to reach you.
Now, does my song echo in the darkness of your mind?

"Hello, can you hear me...so far away?"

worddancer, you have written a beautiful haunting piece.  I like looking through the window and yet seeing the reflection of myself ( or my soul ).  This is great.  ME

OH Wordancer,

Your poetry is wonderfully subjective.  Expresses the inner soul so very well.  I could see the image pressed in the glass with the rain, lightning flashes, and hear the voice echoing through the dark chambers of my mind.  You have captured this dark moment so imaginably well.  -Bob

Thanks for all your awesome comments—that is one of the pleasures of writing, having folks to feel the emotions that I’m attempting to convey.

BTW, this was my first poem that I put online, way back in Oct 1999.  Came across it a few days ago and looking at it with more an experience eye. I  just did a couple of twitches to it.  Mostly line break work…what a difference it makes.

Wow...what a grabbing piece wordancer.  Your words linger in the canyon of my heart, that is for sure.

NapalmsConstantlyConfused(Dave), do feel free to share the link with your friends.  If you look at the upper right hand corner at the group of user options, you will see an Icon that allows you to do that.   Replies are not necesary, I am pleased that you told me you want to share my, 'Reflections'.

rosepetals, that was a perfect response.

SmittenKitten/Krawdad, those were two of the lines I tweaked just a little, looks like it was a good adjustment.  Thanks!
