My mother sent two sons to war,
The big one way back then.
Enlisting they were untried boys,
They came back as tested men.

When the war was over,
They came home looking whole.
Though not at first apparent,
That war had taken toll.

One fought in the jungle,
The other sailed the seas.
They were only two of many,
All mother's sons like these.

Another war is waging
And sons and daughters go
To save our precious freedom
From the conniving foe.

Since history's beginnings,
Man has battled man,
Each generation praying,
War to forever ban.

Perhaps at last this is the one,
The war to end all war.
We'll fight the foe so bravely.
There will be war no more.

I too hope it is the last one...I am glad there is a resurgance of patriotism, but sad that it had to come as it did. I enjoyed your poem.

Joyce,

One can only pray that this will be the end of war. I know I do every day.

Dear Joyce,
I loved the smooth feel to this poem, and the sentiment. As long as there are people there will be war, but there will also always be hope.
