When I learned there was no Santa,
I didn't really feel too bad,
Except for all those other kids,
Who didn't have our loving dad.
I didn't tell our daddy,
Because he still believed,
That it was from old Santa
Those presents were received.
But he was Santa's helper
And when we were off to bed,
He stayed up to fill those stockings,
Before Santa had visited.
I guess he thought that Santa
Wouldn't do it right and so,
He filled those stockings up himself.
First an orange in the toe,
Then a wealth of nuts and candy,
He put in right to the top.
He'd plumb run out of stocking
Before it was time to stop.
We let him think we were asleep
And didn't know he was the one
Who filled the stockings for Santa
We didn't want to spoil his fun.
We would have known Daddy filled it,
The bulging sock we were dreaming of,
Because along with the nuts and candy,
It was so chock full of love.

I enjoyed your poem. As each of our kids became enlightened, my wife told them to keep the secret alive for the younger ones. She said, “As long as you believe, you too, will receive a gift from Santa.” We all enjoyed this for many years. Thanks.

The fifth is my son's birthday..as well as St.Nick's day...I recalled the latter a bit late and at six am rushed out to get the stocking stuffers I needed...true...the day would have gone by without it...but i haven't felt so...joyous...in a long while...your poem caught it perfectly. Thank you

Joyce~

'When I learned there was no Santa'

NO !  Say it isn't so ...

Well ... I still believe ...
and this was touchingly nostalgic~

Dear Joyce,
I loved this one. It made me kinda weepy, though. Don't know why. I just get weepy sometimes at sweet things.
