Geometry

And to think I called it a waste of time to learn geometry
But now I can't help but start to grin
when I think of all the shapes I'm in
and the distances between you and me

If you were "a" and I was "b"
I would draw a straight line from you to me
but silly me, I forgot "c" and "d"
and now look at the shape of my heart

And if I add her to the picture a triangle is what I see
But now the angles don't feel right
and I'm left alone to face this plight
hoping someone will answer my plea

So you are "a" and I am "b"
and I've remembered to name her "c"
but silly me, I've still forgotten "d"
and now look at the shape of my heart

So I add him to our drawing squarely arranged are we
But now all the points don't connect
the growing diameters now reflect
the confusion I feel inside of me

You're still "a" and I'm still "b"
and she and he make up "c" and "d"
but silly me, it's so plain to see
this isn't the shape of my heart

Squares and triangles we may be
but I long for a straight line between you and me
because then I know you'll finally see
the bright glowing shape of my heart

This is a playful poke at what happens when two people who are already involved in other relationships find out that they are attracted to each other.

Welcome to Passions, Jeffrey. Relationships can become quite a tangled mess, can't they? Please check your email for a special Passions welcome!

HEY TEHRE! Dontcha know what a lazy lil reader I am, Jeffey? LOL! You made me come all the way in here to find your writing.
Well, it was a wonderful point of view, and very well written. I never understood Geometry though. ;-)

Denise,
Yes, relationships do weave a tangled messy web around our hearts.   Thank you for showing me how to make the greeting cards; my poem seemed to take on a whole new "life" dressed up lol.

Jenn,
You came all the way in here for little ol' me? (blushing) I'm touched, my temptress. Thanks for the compliments and I'm no closer to understanding Geometry either.

Trillium,
Thank you for reading; I'm glad you enjoyed.

I never liked Geometry but I like your poem. Very creative, maybe the next one will be Algebra and the missing factor?..I  will be looking for more of your poems.

I seldom come in here but sure glad I came and read this post. Although I always liked  geometry, I liked this concept of it far more.  Welcome!  I'll be looking for more.

This is cute. The playful language offers a neat way of seeing a common situation, and it also lends a bit of humor to a volatile scenario. Neat.

notarose, Solstice Son, Enchantress, ellie Lejeune, Lady in White, sandgrain, Irish Rose,

Thank you all for reading and for your kind compliments and welcomes. I have to admit (sheepish grin here lol) that I have been a member of Passions since 1999; I recently changed my ID from "rascalx" to my real name to reflect a personal change. But thank you for such a warm greeting  .

Gale,
Yes, I think you are starting to see the shape of my heart too.   I thought you would appreciate the irony of this poem.
and see - I DO respond to my threads on occasion lol. (((hug)))

Sven,
Jinkies! He's found me again! I know! I'll go hide over in the Critiques section; he'll NEVER find me there! HAHAHAHAHA.
I'm glad you found me, my friend. And yes, it seems my angles tend to be congruent! lol

hush,
thank you; I found it was easier to illustrate this frustrating situation with humor rather than sadness or anger. Glad you enjoyed.
