I believe in the world as it was before,
Before terrorists had come to our shore,
Before atom bombs and tumbling towers,
Before pollution and acid rain showers.

I believe in those guilt free childhood days,
When our parents led us on life's pathways.
When we loved neighbors and neighbors loved us;
The world was at peace and no one made a fuss.

Was the world as peaceful as I recall,
When mother hovered and kept my world small?
I long to go back to those days so bright
When Mama and Daddy made it all right.

They kept all evil from my tiny ears.
With my daddy nearby, I had no fears.
Oh yes, I believe in the world of then,
And with all my heart, want it back again.

I think we long for those long ago days when we were but babes and children.  For our parents protected us from the harsh reality of the world as much as possible even when there was major world difficulties going on, we were not expose to it as the children of todays world.

They will look back and see the burning images of towers falling...I wonder what their perspective will be of this event 20 years from now and how it has effect them.

Good poem of the lost of what was and never will be again.

Oh to have the innocence and naivete of a child again...it only seems like yesterday that I was believing in Santa Claus!  Beautifully expressed Joyce.

Hugs,

Joyce:  This is such a moving and eloquent poem!  I'm afraid the world will never be as it was before, but we do have our memories to cherish.

Memories fade and time has healing power. A new dawn brings new hope and innocence can be recaptured. ....of course i'm the eternal optimist!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Joyce....

I long for those days as well....but, more for my children than for me......We used to think about playing with dolls and hide and seek and they think about war and whether or not their schools are safe....I pray everyday for a safe world for them.

Best
