November of the Year

Under a dark and roiling sky,
Dry, withered leaves and twigs blow by.
Driven by winds so cold and drear,
Here in November of the year.

Over a world that's half asleep,
A winter sun begins to peep.
Casting a pale and sickly glow
Upon the land that lies below.

High on the heights, a thicket lies
And here a bull elk slowly dies.
Wounded by hunters, carelessly,
Who left him in his agony!

Out of his glazed and tortured eyes,
There shines a soul, that surely cries,
To every hunger in the field,
"If you're not sure, then kindly yield.

Pass every shot that isn't true,
For animals have feelings too!
Over these woods, I used to reign.
What did you prove?  What did you gain?"

So very sad and incredibly cruel!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

ellie and Joyce:  Yes, this is incredibly cruel and sad but it seems to happen every year during hunting season. Licing where we do, we see and hear a lot about careless hunters.

That just got to me; I'm a hunter and I HATE it when others are so incredible careless like that!

Skyfire:  I'm sure most hunters are very careful when they shoot at game.  Unfortunately, there are always a few who aren't and leave a lot of suffering behind them. Thanks for your comments.
