Twenty-four years ago today, she came into the world
“She’s just perfect” is what everyone said
But they gasped in horror when they got closer
The baby was born with a pumpkin head!

She knew she was different than everyone else
And she cried everyone night when she went to bed
All the kids teased her at school everyday
Guess what they called her?  That’s right, pumpkin head.

As she grew older, the teasing wore off
But being in public was something she’d dread
Because there was always some heckler out in the crowd
Shouting “Look out! Here comes Pumpkin Head!”

Getting through doors was always a feat
She preferred being outside instead
Because once in awhile she would get stuck
And they’d have to oil her pumpkin head.

Halloween was her favorite
Because strangers were always misled…
They thought it was a fabulous costume she wore!
“Where on earth did you find that great pumpkin head!”

Loneliness found her often as she grew up,
More and more tears she would shed,
But one day she looked up and guess what she saw!
A guy –a cute guy! - with (Take a guess!!)
A PUMPKIN HEAD!

It was love at first sight!
It wasn’t long before they wed,
And guess what came next?
You got it –their own little baby pumpkin head.

The moral of the story is…
Gee I don’t think there really is one.

Sweet Bethy, I laughed out loud at this funny little gem...how clever of you! Yes, we called you "Pumpkin Head" being a very bald baby and bringing you home on halloween ...it just fit! Now your cute baby name has turned into a very witty and whimsical poem by my lovely and talented daughter! Bravo!!! Love to my favorite Pumpkin head!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

So it runs in the family?  How cute.  I used to call my babies "Punkin"  but it didn't term them into rhymsters.  Hope to see more of your work.  This was clever.  Joyce
