Tea Time

"Do come and have some tea," said scone.
"I hate to drink it all alone."

"Why, yes I will," the jam replied.
"Now let your conscience be your guide.
For there are others to invite.
Like cookie, cake and vegamite."

"Oh, no, not him," said scone once more.
"I always find him such a bore.
But yes, I will, if you insist,
So add him to the growing list.
Bagel always makes me smile
And muffin said he'd come awhile."

Now ladyfinger heard the stir
And wondered if they'd invite her,
But when she asked, then she was told
That black pekoe was too bold
For someone delicate and fey.
So she went home and drank Earl Grey!

(Sorry but these fits of giddiness will not be denied!)

Thanks Marge.  Being Canadian I have eaten a fair share of scones!  I carried that habit with me when I left Canada. Haven't had any in too long now.  Wish I had some of your Aunt Jewells right now!

Betty,
This is mouth watering poetry for sure! (It's amazing how a few well chosen words can make me salivate.)Well done, have to go raid the cuboards now for a snack. Thanks for the inspiration, Dennis :^)

Moon Dust:  Thanks for commenting. It is reminiscent of that tea party scene in Alice.
I hadn't thought about that, but you're right.

lol!!
this was great to me. i have a wee obsession with tea/tea parties/and quasi british proper phrasing. It's just marvelous stuff, all. i fell in love with alice in wonderland when i was very young and it's stuck with me,still on of my favorites. Your poem was delightfully refreshing ,i enjoyed the read fully, and i'll take this opprtunity to encourage more "giddy" poetry, loved it!!
