Farewell to Fall

The fallen leaves lie thick and damp
Beneath my footsteps as I tramp
Through forest mostly bare and gray,
To watch October slip away.
There is a place I like to go
Before it's buried under snow,
To spend some time remembering
The way it looked, away last spring
And in the summer's heat it made
A cooler haven.  Pools of shade
Enticed me here with book and chair
To read in sweet seclusion there.
Just like a princess in a bower,
I lazed and dreamed an idle hour.
But now it's time to say good-bye.
The wind shakes seed pods and seeds fly
To nestle in the woodsy floor,
Awaiting time to grow once more
And so, farewell to everything
That lies asleep until it's spring!

BettyLou~
Yep ... it goes so quickly~
But then it burrows into snow
(at least for some)
Personally, I can't wait for Spring to return to us all~
Could we just skip winter ?????
I'm gonna hibernate~

Joyce:  I'd be very happy if we could extend fall into spring! But when there's snow falling outside, it's an impossible dream!

Marge:  If you can arange to skip winter, I'll be the first one to agree and sign your petition!  Do you think Mother Nature will pay any attention to us?  Not a chance!

I think if you skip winter it takes the excitement away from spring. So bring it on.  Great poem.I to love to idle an hour away outside.I bring my notepad and write down my thoughts.  Enjoy the Fall   She only comes but once a year. Suzanne

Suzanne:  I was born and grew up in Canada, in Alberta.  Winter there is serious business as I imagine it is in Ontario. I even used to enjoy it!!

I like your format and the poem was very real.
I love Fall...then Winter.
Winter makes us welcome Spring all the more.
Here in the South the Summer makes us really glad when Fall arrives.

Rose Unicorn:  Welcome to Passions!  I hope you enjoy yourself here.  Thanks for your comments on my poem.  I live in Northern Idaho, so winters can be pretty fierce here some years.  I hope this year is not one of them!
