September by the Lake

September, by the lake, for me,
Restores my sense of harmony.
While watching clouds their shadows chase
Across the ever-changing face.
When winds arise that rush and roar,
They send waves crashing on the shore,
But then it stills, the storm clouds pass
And leave it like a sheet of glass
And sunset paints the water's reach,
With pink and gold, with mauve and peach.

I see the first bright star appear
And somewhere in the woods, quite near,
I hear an owl begin to call
From trees that form a guarding wall
Around the contour of the bay.
Then as the daylight fades away,
The wink of fires here and there,
Tells me that other people share
The white sand beach and hills that rise
Like sentinels, into the skies.
The wildlife and the beauty here
Will draw me back, year after year!

This is very pretty Betty.  It has cooled off so much today, seems like fall has really started.  Joyce

Thank you Joyce!  We actually got rain out of a rather fierce thunder storm this evening. First rain in about 6 weeks so was very welcome!  There are many signs of fall!

Bonnie:  Thanks for the nice remarks and I hope there is some sign of your life returning to normal, or as normal as possible for the times.

Tracey:  Thanks and I wish I were there too!
We usually go right after school starts, but were delayed and after the 11th, no longer felt like going.  Maybe next year!  It is a lovely place.

Marge:  Thank you so much!  This lake is so beautiful and you either have to hike in.....which I no longer do.........or go by boat.  It's my favorite place at this time of year and we usually go after school starts, for about ten days. Not this year however.

We not only had rain here last night, but we have PUDDLES!

The tranquility in this one wrapped around me like a warm fleece blankie...and most of us need all the soft warm blankies we can get these days!

Midnitesun:  You are so right, we do need warm blankie's right now more than ever. I am trying to move away from the depressing situation when I can and write about other things. Thanks for your response.
