Rachel weeps
and will not be consoled;
for to accept comfort will invalidate the loss.
Her lamentations howl on the winds,
riding the storm that swirls through the concrete canyons
of the city.

Rachel’s tears
stream from her devastated face.
Dark clouds gather over the rubble of broken lives
back-blasted out of complacency;
a world in crisis.

Rachel’s compassion
reaches out, a long pale hand
that trembles to touch the pain.
Anguish dissolves into the downpour
from her raining face;
to percolate through the dark mounded ruins,
to pool in the empty palms
torn from life.

Weep Rachel—weep;
for this is the time to cry.

Wordancer, the poet who writes to the beat of a different drummer.

This is indeed a time of lamentations. The foundations of the earth are shaken.
