I ate my peach today, the one that didn't fall.
The heavy rain and wind brought down the rest.
The slugs, the wasps and creatures got them all.

My son had lovingly planted my peach tree,
Before God called and took him far away.
Did he hold tight to this last fruit for me?

Last year there was a harvest I could share;
A young tree that had tried its very best.
This season all that bounty wasn't there.

I savored it the way I knew I would;
Sweetened, pouring on the richest cream.
When there's no more, the taste is twice as good.

Now there's nothing left to do but wait a year.
Put up my feet, sit by the fire and dream;
Awaiting "Fruits of God" to reappear.

Joyce, this is so beautiful I am speechless.

the woods are lovely, dark, and deep, but I have promises to keep, and many miles to go before I sleep...Frost

Joyce; You have out done yourself here, nostalgic and so peaceful!  Ellie

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Joyce:  I'm so glad you enjoyed your peach.,  I am waiting for my one apple to ripen!  The wind blew all the blossoms off the tree in May and only one lone apple is there.  I have to share it however! My husband and son will each want a piece.

Tenderly and beautifully done, Joyce! As much of a treat to read as your peach was to eat!

Thank you for sharing your peach with us!   What a nice thought. It must have been your son saving that one peach for you!

This poem is a work of art as magnificent as the peach. Thanks for sharing this sweet peach with the rest of us.
