Promise of the Rose

The climbing rose that looked so dead
All winter long, in April shed
It's dull, brown shade and turned to green.
While here and there small leaves were seen
And later on, in June, each bloom
Will flaunt it's color and perfume.

The corner of the house, it claims
And sends red flowers like small flames
Cascading from the roof to ground
And ever present, is the sound
Of bees who visit every day
And scatter pollen on their way.

It's color seems to catch the eye
Of people who are passing by.
Then, when it's season's done, I know,
That even buried under snow,
The heart of it will still survive,
Emerging in the spring, alive!

Beautiful.  It never fails to surprise when these tender looking roses survive the long, cold winter.  Joyce

oh, how lovely and so smoothly does this beauty read! The hope of spring lives in earth and heart, sometimes buried neath strife and snow, surely to emerge in the spring of His Love!  Ellie

Dear Betty Lou

Roses are very resilient.  This poem paints the true "Colour" of the Rose.  I love this one.  Then again, I love all of your poetry.

Love Isobel

Noah:  Thanks. We have climbing roses that cover parts of our house.  Pink ones in front and red ones on the side.  I wait for them to bloom each year with great anticipation.  They cover a large area and are so beautiful.

Marti:  It's not spring here either. I do see some signs of it coming but we still have a lot of snow on the ground. Supposed to snow again on Wednesday night and Thursday too.
