Like a pretentious peacock
You strutted and lied
Chest out, head cocked to one side
With plumage displayed arrogantly
In unsubstantiated pride
Attempting to torture
Intending to hurt
Trying to ruffle my feathers
And soil my skirt
You scattered nasty put-downs
All over the dirt
But don't strut yourself at me
For no meek peahen I be
I outgrew your enclosure
And set myself free
Now I strut my own stuff
For the whole barnyard to see
What a glorious feeling
Self-acceptance can be

Havin' fun struttin'
under the midnitesun

Thanks, Joyce. It pays to be reminded of that once in a while. Glad you liked the poem.

Thanks, Marge.I'm glad you liked it. Being a bird lover helps to enjoy any poetry about peacocks...even the human kind.

That's a feeling I hope to one day experience.   I was drawn in by the title and enjoyed this poem very much.

I'm glad you liked the title and the poem, and hope you find that state of self-acceptance. (It took me over 40 years to get to that spot.)
