The Desert Sky

Last night, the desert sky a-blaze
With fire, from the sun's last rays,
Arrested me, to stop and stare
At all the flaming beauty there
And as the colors faded out,
I started and I looked about.
The shadows filled each dip and draw,
But on the highest peaks I saw
A rosy glow, still lingering.
An evening bird began to sing
And so I waited on to see
The stars in their trajectory
And when the darkness was complete,
Their brilliant beauty could compete
With any sunset.  Who can choose
From watching colored light diffuse,
To standing underneath the dome
Where stars and planets make their home?
That in the depths of sky array
Their diamond beauty on display.
I spend much time outdoors to share
The gifts that nature scatters there.

Love this!
I enjoy doing this too and you've captured it very well!
Couldn't have done better myself.
Thanks for posting it.

Lovely Images. Though I have not having been to the desert.. the mental pictures you painted took me there in spirit. Thanks for the trip.

Moon Shadow:  Thanks.  The high desert country I write about is in north eastern Nevada. I'll always be glad I had a chance to spend some time there.

You made me feel as if I were in sitting in the desert under a magenta sunset. Thanks...the desert is truly magical, as is your poem.
