Inspired by Dennis's lovely Haiku Firefly The firefly is on the brink Of flashing luminescent wink And hundreds join in subtle light To spatter glow in summer night I never really understood The need to flash, instead they could Come out in day instead of night Eliminating need for light Eliminate illumination? Best not mess with God’s creation There’s a purpose and a plot To every bug on every lot I think the little firefly Was put on earth to please the eye When darkness comes in summer nights I’m witness to a show of lights Elizabeth Santos |

Elizabeth: This is lovely! I read once that fireflies blink a certain number of times when they are ready to mate. I guess they must be able to count!! Betty Lou Hebert |
