Could Be Anywhere...

Reflections, Again

Is that me
is that me
is that really me?
Wondering, remembering.
Looking at twenty, thirty
year old photographs.

Touching the images
family portrait, now asunder.
My boys building
mud fortifications...
come running to greet my arrival.

The sister-in-law
that fell from grace
with the perfect stranger.
Yet, I remain
the black sheep?
Odd how perceptions persist, eh?

Members who are gone
or just about
heartache for home, family.
Dear mother who rejected
pushed away to this foreign land.
Not bitter, just sad, maybe lonely.

Trace the family tree
fingerprints in ancient book
whose covers creek when opened.
A treasure trove
with a few tainted jewels.
Time machine sometimes not welcome.

Seems all the disappointment,
all the failures, the crashed dreams
are hiding inside that book.
Along the most highly cherished
the moments immortal, preserved
building blocks of me...
Is that me
is that really me?

A treasure trove.  This touch on memories, on pictures past, is wonderful.

It can be mind-boggling, can't it? Very well expressed, Daniel!

I know this feeling so well.  Whenever I look at old family pictures it is so hard to reconcile what I see in the picture with who I am today.  Was I ever that young?  That thin?  That carefree?  The questions go on and on.

Wow, this is great, Modernist poetry...on the theme of alienation. Wonderful.
