Amazing to me
is this human wave
and how I wash aside
fleshtones crest and curl
around me
oblivious to the man of grey
their brush reminds me of touch
of days when I had color too
but my chameleon ways are fading
no longer can I raise a flush
I am still now
and I only want to flow again
yet when the soft tide ebbs
I alone am left standing
and I alone walk away

Red_Feather,
I believe this is the most painful piece I've read yet since I've been here. Of course, it's only been two days.
Anyway, I felt the frustration and agony that you wrote here.
And the way that you wrote it is just wonderful.

'but my chameleon ways are fading
no longer can I raise a flush'

Marvelous thought.

Ouch!!!  That was a very sad ending.  Hope this is out of a mind's creation and not that of reality.  Thanks for sharing

Beautiful analogy!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

I am reminded of a book I once read called "The Giver" about a boy named Jonas who had an opposite predicament. You should read it sometime.
