Dog And Me (a shot at the lighter side)

Dog And Me

Sitting there with dog,
his eyes and mine,
matching wits
across the space
between us,
while time and flies
passed right by
and neither of us
batted an eye.

The smarter breed
yawned
to show his teeth,
while eye contact
maintained it's hold;
and I,
the mightier eye,
yawned right back
and stared more bold.

As if to say,
you think you're good,
he lifted a leg,
scratched his side,
lay on the floor,
loosed a sigh,
but never let his eye
stray from it's hold.

We battled on
dog and I,
for hours it seemed,
or weeks at least,
hard and bold
maintaining our hold
till finally I blinked.

Up jumped dog,
with a mighty yelp,
turned in circles,
jumped in the air,
sat on the floor,
looked at me
with a mighty stare,
as if to say,
don't you dare…
and stalked
right out of the room.

Insect,glad you enjoyed it...it was a fun write.
