~FOR THE SAKE OF LOVE~

For the sake of loving me,
hold me tenderly
as if tomorrow will not come,
but, still knowing with faith that it will,
let us both live for the yesterday's
that we bring to one another,
for today, as our bond grows deeper
our gift to savour and cherish,
and for the tomorrows we will create,
let your heart be patient with mine,
the one that is so fragile, hopeless and cold,
yet, still longs for the warmth of you,
rather than turn away from me,
instead, show me a gentle smile with open arms,
even when I close mine to you,
understand that my wings are broken
and I need you
to teach me to fly again,
to caress my soul back to life once more,
cradling it's shattered dreams, battered spirit and haunting memories,
erasing them from the walls of my heart,
filling it with unconditional love and understanding
to love me for all that I am
and not what your fantasies have always desired for me to be,
I am only human,
I may dissapoint you from time to time,
I may make mistakes,
I may still hold on to a past that cripples my future,
but, please be patient with me,
I am still a woman who longs to find her soulmate,
who longs to find love and happiness,
give me a chance to show you that I, too, can love you with open arms...someday, I promise you that,
I need your love and your support
so that I may heal,
so that I can give all of myself to you
for always,
be my knight and shining armour,
stand by my side
and hold me tight,
sweep me off my feet
and show me what love is made of,
be my lover, my protector and my friend,
all this I ask of you
for the sake of love

This is a beautiful poem and I love the
thought! It's so hard to find unconditional
love.....to just love someone the way they
are and get that same love back.

You did a wonderful job on this!!

Sounds like true love, Melissa.  Wishing you the best my friend!!      Nice soft writing.

Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats

We could all use a love like that.  I know I could. Great read.

Thank you everyone for your replies.  This poem wasn't written for anyone specifically, but as what I would say to a man that I will love in the future.

Take care,
Melissa Honeybee
