Note: for those not familiar with Australian birds this refers to Cockatoos ( white with a yellow crest)
and Pink Galahs.  Cooee is a bush call, within cooee means within shouting distance and a gum is a type of eucalpyt tree. (Whew! Think that's it! )

Lumbering,
metallic vegetarians,
now feed within cooee of my back
fence where a gnarled
old ghost gum once stood.

His sun-bleached
emaciated arms embraced
the dying embers
of an erupting sky.
Choirs of screeching
yolk crowned angels
would swiftly descend
to join the mob
of blushing Galahs
and lament day's end.

You reside in a place I will visit one day...for it has always called to me...

and now I need to make travel arrangements, because this calls to me so vividly...

thank you Tess...

Tess~
I join Karilea in her 'call' ....
The birds alone would be worth the trip !
I have friends there who I hope to visit someday.

Beautiful ... and thanks for the explanation.
Made it even more lovely.

You had me as soon as I saw mention of the Ghost Gum. I think it is a difficult thing to capture the feeling of our land, but you have done it so very well. Great work, I love it!

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown
