Threads That Bind (A Rubaiyat)

Her life is built on strength of word
Each caring thought, each lesson heard
Are bits and pieced, her calico
Combined expressions, emotions stirred.

A cabin logged, each stitched just so
Disciplined, as patterns go.
Formed of straight and narrow strips
Connected, one by one to grow.

Pins and needles held soft by lips
Thimbles protecting her fingertips,
Her history is worked with threads
And fabric saved from memory trips.

Browns of Autumn, greens and reds
Sized to cover, to texture beds.
Interlocked, and fleeced to keep
In heated warmth of winter's dreads.

In dreams of nighttime counting sheep
Under the covers watching them leap,
Or counting the tails of stars that fall
Before she reaches her twilight sleep.

Diamonds and triangles, shapes of all
Shaded arranged and hung on a wall
Of galaxy stars, a patchwork designed
Creating reflections, edges raw.

Collected and stitched, each refined
Tumbling blocks, a trio aligned.
Lights to mediums, to darks, it hints
Of basics to building, a life defined.

A touch of victorian opulance
Beaded, embroidered in various tints,
Of crazy quilted fabric blends,
Forming hearts patterned from memory prints.

Her Baltimore Album, a quilting trend
Squares of life, stitched end on end.
Appliqued, the Flower and Bird,
Sharing the past with each future new friend.

wayoutwalt..the only way to do them is to do them right..thank you, walt I spent two days trying to get this rhyme scheme down..next time I will choose easier end words...but I have never done one before and wanted to challenge myself a bit...

Hi Maureen,
I liked this, it was a little different than what I'm used too, but nice. Well done.

Bill...it's one of those forms that  all lines rhyme but the third and then the third becomes the rhyme for the next verse and so forth...it's a repeating form...
thank you for  reading and responding
