In a dim lit motel room…
She smiled so happily-
Then thrust the needle in her vein,
I stared on helplessly.

She said I ought to try it-
I told her, I’ll decline…
She called me an old fogey,
And way behind the times.

But Death was in that needle,
And laughing all the while…
She drifted into la-la land,
She took that long hard mile.

Escape from all the heartache,
I guess is what she sought…
A three by six of county dirt-
Is all the farm she bought.

Another nameless victim-
Another hopeless shell…
Another life that’s sacrificed-
And soul that’s gone to Hell.

Foolish? Yes, I’d say she was-
I’d like to pull the rope,
And swing the stinking pusher high…
Who sold the kid the dope.

It's really hard to sit back and watch
people kill themselves with drugs, and
  that includes alcohol.
Thank you for writing this, as
I have such strong feelings on the
subject that I can't find the words..
You did, and very well, also...
