Today's the day I do it, girl - the day I make it through
The morning, noon and night without a single thought of you.
I know I haven't done it yet, though I've been trying to....
Today's the day I do it, girl - the day I make it through.

Today's the day I realize the diner down the street
Is just another building - not the place where we would eat.
I'll realize the sun will not remind me of your face,
The breeze that touches me won't make me think of your embrace.

Today the beauty and the fragrance of the garden flowers
Won't represent the splendor of the love that once was ours.
My mind will finally free itself of memories long since passed
And I will break the chains that bind and bid adieu at last.

Late afternoon, 'round four o'clock, when all the skies turn gray
Will be because it happens - not because you went away.
The evening stars that follow will not represent a sign
Of irridescent, sparkling love that once was yours and mine.

Then late at night beneath the sheets, I promise not to stare
At that same spot where you once lay, with hopes to find you there.
Today's the day I free myself of all my pain and sorrow
And, if I don't succeed......then I will try again tomorrow.

Uh huh, and today's the day the sun will stop shining, the birds stop singing, and your heart stops beating. I don't think so!
Absolutely wonderful poem, and yes...haven't we all been there at some time or another.

do you know how absolutely adorable and tender and sweet this poem is ...
I just had to smile while reading it,
even though its emotions laced with
melancholy
its wisdom and grace
just spoke of you so perfectly...
and thus...
the smile comes from the thought of you...

Forgetting to forget seems to be the hardest  part of all of this. Try as we might it always seems to come back when we think we are doing so well.  Absolutely wonderful write.  I applaud you once more.

I tried this, too, but I wasn't very successful. I've read quite a few of yours and you are a very good poet. I put this one in my library to read again. Do you have a website with your poetry? I would like to view it, if you do. If you see this comment, could you E-mail me with a link to your website if you have one? Thank you.
