On The Downward Slide

It happens while drifting into slumber,
Or undertaking mundane tasks of the day
Flashes strike like quick claps of thunder
Destroying my armour, scenes that slay.

They tell me it takes time to recover
A natural process with passage of time,
In renovating ourselves we discover
We were victims yet part of the crime.

An onslaught of fears flooding my head
Can’t seem to find that inner peace
Tears now flowing, once left unshed
Like winter rain that doesn’t cease.

Historically known as a being of strength
Wondering now where this force lies
In short reserve at any length
What little exists, is in disguise.

Isolation trails like a shadow
Shunning the sun outside
Haunting spirit to the marrow
Washing ashore my own red tide.

I didn’t come this far to wallow
In depression and self-shame,
My perspective really isn’t this shallow
So I’ll fight, my true self to reclaim.

I’ll send a prayer or two your way
To thank you for all you have given
Won’t let it all fall to dread and dismay
With your love I know I’m forgiven.

Corinne,
YOu definately write from the heart and perhaps the soul. Some sad perhaps, but in time it will pass, it must. Well done, and I liked the read.

Corinne, truer words could not be penned for that inner challenge that I fee from this piece. As always great writing, sweet poet.

I too, liked the personal responsibility of "victims, yet part of the crime..."   introspective honest soul searching, with hope--healing underway...nice, Corinne...
