Sometimes the heart dwells for a time in suffering’s darker place
The subconscious tiptoes in and puts a mirror to your face
And there before your eyes appear the visions of your past
From cherished early childhood days up to the evening last

These pictures long forgotten of a happiness before
Appearing now before you cutting deep into the core
The pain of living often brings the truth into the light
Putting thoughts into perspective and replacing dreams at night

And so I sit and look into the window of my soul
And see more clearly who I am, a vision of the whole
I pray that I will see relief in steps I am to plod
But happiness and pain still rest within the hands of God

My husband wrote these words in Portuguese, then I translated them and put them to rhyme. I thought they were worth sharing.
Liz

Worth sharing indeed, Elizabeth. One can only fractionaly imagine what your husband must be going through and what thoughts are rushing through his mind. My thoughts are with you both, as well as the rest of your family. Thank you for sharing this.....

Does this rhyme as beautifully in Portugese as it does in English? Thus you have found your soul's mate in both love, life, and poetry, Elizabeth, and a more remarkable match we may never see...

my prayers are with you both...

Oh Elizabeth ... not only are they worth sharing, but they are worth cherishing ... and so I shall.  What a beautiful verse you have penned together through his words and your wonderful gift of poetry.

Best wishes and prayers to you both,

Liz; This is so lovely. It sounds like he is very in touch with his feelings and you put it to verse so beautifully. The two of you make this poem a symphony. Love, Ellie

Oh, this is so beautiful!  I did not know that your husband was a poet too!  Please tell him for me, that his talent is exquisite, as yours is; and that the love between the two of you make a couple I will never forget, as long as I live.
