Dead Roses

It was that special day again
And of course I sent dead roses
You always send back just one
So I know you still love me

We had some real good times eh! honey
I've saved all those roses, you know
They line my special cell, so proud
Just like a tribute to martyrdom…

Were you proud when I mailed your nudie pic to your boss
You must have gotten a raise then, or at least he did
No don't thank me again, I knew you'd be thrilled…
That thank you in my car paint was quite tasteful though.

Thanks for putting those swastika's on my bumper,
And just putting the KKK in my lience plate number
I got a lot of invites to some new rallies from that
I opted not to attend, but sent your name in my place…

They told me they march right to a new member's house,
They even put a burning cross, in the lawn in thanks for joining,
I told them you like pink crosses best, or Pokka dots,
They said they'd see what they could do for you, ain't they nice.

I got that court notice to stay away from you house today,
I didn't know you could request a ten-mile radius
That female impersonator lesbian, that tries to pick you up,
Doesn't she/he have the same color eyes as me…? Wink

I'll be getting out of jail soon, can't wait to see you
The parole board keeps putting off my release date
False doctor's reports keep appearing in my computer files,
Saying only let this case out through the pearly gates…

I know how good you were with computers,
I remember you said you like cyber-sex better then with me,
You never said you had a problem wearing that bag…
Or that hot babe rubber body enhancement suit, it sure made me hot.

I know since I've been in here you've been lonely,
So I gave your email address to some inmates that like computers,
They seem to be upset lately, you seem to have hurt their feelings,
They objected to the psycho stalking freak names that you call them.

They said that all they did was sent you some suggestions,
On many different ways of using a bar of soap,
I know they've been in here a long time, and are quite naive
I explained you prefer car battery powered S&M toys best

I talked to my favorite florist today,
Gave him proper instructions for your birthday present,
These one's have had their petals plucked off, with lots of thorns,
You know dead roses are forever, cause they won't die like love.

James Parker Haley  July 23, 2000

**Note**
This post is not intended to offend, just to show the insanity that can happen when love goes wrong. I tried to keep it humorous and off the wall and let the writing go where it may. Don't worry I'll be getting out of this padded cell shortly, the doctors say I'm doing well and have reduced part of my medication. So all in all I'm still a happy poet.

Rex, do chuckle, not my misfortune, just a humurous look at this kind of insanity.

Janet, well thanks glad you get the point.. and as for Dr. Freud, I hear he's eyeing one of your poems....lol

I love the off the wall humour in this one.
However, it's so true how silly and vengeful separated lovers become. The ideas in the lines of this poem are definitely not overstated. Life's observations confirm that.

Very very good work and good fun!

Take me down little suzie
take me down.
I know you think you're the queen
of the underground.
Well you can send me
dead flowers every morning
dead flowers by the mail
dead flowers to my wedding
and I won't forget to put roses
on your grave.....

Corinne, I'm back and you are, the sweetest of the bunch...

Balladeer, thank you and I love you too.

Martini, another Torontonian, thank you for all your replies.

Butterflies, don't try and keep it straight, you'll only go insane and get a new padded sitting room. Come join me in mine, we can bounce off the walls together... or the floor

Great poem!
Love wars
Will leave battle sores
But who got the last score
Is there really love anymore
