Woman and Girl
You answer the phone, and I look at your face.
My surprise is great!
Can you see the shock I feel?
My eyes must be blind because a stranger I see,
I wonder who you are.
Where is the girl I knew? Where has she gone?

As I watch the memories flood my mind,
I see the frown, the shy gentle smile,
The slight turn of the head, and the graceful neck.
Oh there you are I see you now!

At last I understand!
The girl is still there, she is hidden.
The face and spirit are masked,
They are hidden behind the worry and the pain.

But I remember still the love we shared.
The good times we had,
And the bad as well.
The tears that we spilled,
And the agony that touched us both.
The sunny days the stormy too.

Was it so long ago?
I remember the child we made,
And the children that we shared.
The pride that we felt.
Can you see their tiny steps?
And their strides as they grew?

As I watch you from across the room,
I look in amazement at your face.
You are not the stranger that I thought!
I see a new the girl I lost.
I hear your words,
I see the changes made by time.

Our love for each has changed,
I know the reasons are many.
But it was meant to be!
What we had was special.
That no one can take away!
You were sent to me to help me grow,
and I to show you the way!

Never fear tho we are apart just look in your heart.
If in your dreams you look to your side,
There you will find the boy I was the man I am.
You know as I that the bond is strong and true.
The love we had, the love we have can never die!
So, as I look and see the girl you were
And the woman you are.
I wonder, do you remember the boy I was?

Do you see the man I have become?

Tho our paths maybe rocky, at times they will be smooth.
So, don't feel so sad be glad!
Be glad for what we are;
Be glad for what we achieve!
For the one who was
The one who is
