Exposed

Iíve walked around cloaked in a blanket
To protect myself from the wind
Then my poetry gently unwrapped it
And exposed all my feelings within

I walked with a veil draped upon me
To protect my eyes from the sun
But my poetry blew it away
The sheer masquerade was undone

I walked with a pair of old boots
So my tracks would be awkward and fake
Then my poems described them so well
Now you know what direction I take

The picture was slowly uncovered
My essence exposed from the start
For the words that I put down on paper
Were not from my mind, but my heart

My passion, my love and my spirit
Religion, and sorrow and guilt
Love of nature and family and children
Are all woven into the quilt

The words have unraveled my sorrows
And given new light to my fears
My poetry sings out my happiness
And events of my life through the years

Old wounds of the passed have now surfaced
And plants of the seeds I had sown
My own words have led to fulfillment
And a peace that to me was unknown

My poetry tells the whole story
Told better than anyone can
And my heart has been filled with contentment
For I finally found out who I am

I thank God daily that he took the time to show us you...this, perhaps, will be one of the most favored of all your poems...I am honored to tell you so...and may I add, it should be bookmarked for Voices I or II or III...I don't care, as long as the world has a chance to see it!

Ah yes Elizabeth leave it to the workings of poetry to expose us all. When we open the heart we cannot hide. Like it says in the Bible, "out of the heart's abundance the mouth speaks." If it's in there then it is going to be hard to contain forever.
You have described it so well in this poem, the truth shall set you free if you write it down from the heart.
Best of all I love the kicker at the end.
"For I finally found out who I am."
That's the hardest thing to do....be honest with yourself.

Great writing as usual Elizabeth I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Simply masterful Liz...

just masterful.

You have an amazing command over words.

'My passion, my love and my spirit
Religion, and sorrow and guilt
Love of nature and family and children
Are all woven into the quilt'

wow

Liz--I think we are all afraid to expose are Vulnerable underbelly, but when we do, we see how lovely is the strength of this fragility.  You have won many hearts with your poetry, most of all, your own.

I LOVE THIS POEM!

Liz....
I will TRY to contain my self while telling you how AMAZING this poem is...
(but i make no promises)

I got gooebumps when i read it...by the second verse...
i dont even know if i have the words to do it justice...or to tell you how if affected me
I have a half written poem that I can not find the words to express or release
the emotions i feel about my poetry and writing, as well as reading others...
and then i find this jewel..
you have written every poets heart here
I felt this poem...
the ONLY thing wrong is that I didnt write it
and that I cant vote for it a 1000 times.
this belongs in EVERY poetry book
thank you for sharing your grace with us
love you sweet poet

There are places inside our souls -
that have never been touched.
There are places inside our hearts -
that need to be loved this much.

Elizabeth,

This is a true work of art.  I loved each and every word.  It is one of the best you've ever written.

Smiling here Elizabeth ... I think you're in my head!   I just loved this one sooooooo much. I affectionately call what you've described in this perfect poem, as "my therapy of the pen", and don't know how I could have coped without it either Liz.  Absolutely beautiful words to describe these poetic thoughts and feelings!

Take care, best wishes,
/Kit

My poetry tells the whole story
Told better than anyone can
And my heart has been filled with contentment
For I finally found out who I am
........

I walked or atleast so, I thought,
Or maybe my thoughts walked with me,
I wrote the wandering musings I thought
Ha! I had walked my thoughts for free!

Soon my steps may have become leaps,
and my walk would have become a story,
I only hope that when this body sleeps,
I will have walked my walk in history.

..........

Liz,
You have a fantastic poem... how I wish I had written the words I read in you poem...

regards, sudhir
