I wrote this poem for My Aunt Jenny.  Her son, Jason, my cousin, recently left home at the young age of sixteen and it has just broken her heart, she adores him so much, and she is not the same person anymore.  So, I just had to write this poem for her, and it did make her cry.  So, now that you know the story behind my poem, you will better understand it.  It's not the best written poem, I'll admit, but it does serve it's purpose, I wanted to see the situation though her eyes, and give her hope

~MY SWEET JASON~

Son,
I loved you enough
to let you go,
to give you wings to fly
away from my arms
that once embraced you so tenderly,
I loved you enough
to hold back the tears
while you walked out that door
so that my sorrow would not hurt you,
I loved you enough
to give you your space
and time
to discover your place in this world,
what else can a mother do,
but love her child so much
as to watch him say goodbye,
knowing that he must learn this life lesson
on his own,
but, always remember,
my sweet Jason,
that I love you so very much,
you'll always be my little boy,
regardless of age or distance,
and that is why
I patiently wait for your return,
while still allowing you to be on your own
to taste freedom,
it's joy and it's hardships,
knowing that you'll soon come back
to the mother who loves you so dearly,
for, you'll always live in my heart,
My sweet Jason Gary

Excellent description of how worrisome it is for a mother to finally let go, even though she knows that she finally has to.
I love the end ...
"Knowing that you'll soon come back
to the mother that loves you so dearly."

Mom's love never dies, that's the beauty of it.

Melissa~
A tender poem for your aunt.

Hard for some to see the flight feathers
of exploration begin to spread ...
Just knowing the nest is feathered with love,
gives the fledglings a sense of security
in knowing they can return.

Wonderful sentiments you've displayed
from your tender little heart.

Melissa Honeybee,
I left also at 16, and too many thoughts did this writing bring back to me. Thanks for sharing.

Is there anything more painful than letting go of the child you have carried and nurtured all those years? Some just seem ready to fly long before we as mothers are prepared to let them. Thanks for the gentle reminder that they too need to spread their wings.

never say never

Melissa I loved reading this it really touched my heart.  So nice of you to write this for your Aunt.  Your lovely gesture
will make the waiting easier for her until that day when her son reassures her that she will always be his loving mother...James
