Between a laugh and a tear...

0 posted 2000-07-17 06:57 PM

What is it you see through those dark glazed eyes
Is it your past, your future? Or just gloomy skies
Do you see past dreams, long faded and lost
Of lovers and children, do you count the cost?

Heart lays there broken, it's seen in your eyes
Long ago shattered, and still you hear the cries
I know why you grieve, and sit here now
Like and old oak tree, your broken but proud

I too had a love, the one true love just like you
And like you I know that they are so few
My dreams too, now just dust on the floor
A heart torn and tattered it will love no more

So I'll sit here beside you and talk a while
Of dreams that we've had, and share a smile
Just two old men weather beaten and torn
We'll toast lost love, and shed our tears with the dawn

God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown

Eagle One,

Wow, what those eyes have seen over the years.  This is great writing my friend.  So vivid, I feel like I am there.
