Living here chained ... in between two lives,
searching for places where passion survives.
Consistent in the failure of this union's high expectations,
loves illusion fades with disappointing revelations.
Reality recognizes the most honest reasons ...
as promises made ... pass like the changing of seasons.
Accidental acquaintances give comfort and satisfy,
exchanging emptiness for a contented alibi.
Seeking moments of much needed distraction,
longing evokes intense physical reaction.
Need and desire cross boundaries ... cross lines,
the pleasures we seek to ease pain's confines.
Is a sin of thought, a sin in your mind,
when is adultery of thought conceived and defined.
Can a broken heart make a true separation ...
between commitments made and aching desperation.
Love's vows shouldn't be a life sentence or conviction ...
nor should it place passion and desire on restriction.
What becomes of those marital bonds --
when neglect makes a heart eventually wander beyond.
What denies the promise of "to have and to hold" ...
until death do us part, together we grow old.
Wise men say love is blind, and this now holds true,
your heart still unable to see ... the way I (once) need(ed) you.
Living here chained in between two lives ...
searching for the place where love survives.

Janet Marie

Wow Janet, I think I'd have to say this is one of the best I've read from you.  Very powerful piece here - one you know I can understand...  Well done, indeed.

Janet, your insight is simply amazing.  You have a way of getting to the heart of a situation with such ease, depth and understanding.  Those of us who have been or are where this piece leads are so grateful.  Thank you.

JM - This is really great work!  The needs of love are not trivial, and your poem illuminates this truth so well.  Thanks for reposting it.

truly magnificent as always. you write such passionate work, but their is always heartbreak in it to. that's one thing that i have noticed to be constant in your work and i've grown to like.
the part i liked?
in the beginning you said, "searching for a place where passion survives."
then after the poem ran its course, it's like you had a better idea of what you wanted/needed.
"searching for a place where love survives."
i liked that. very clever.
thanks a bunch, as always, for the repost!

Jaw dropping....ow Jan these longer hours at work kill me then I come home and vegetate in from my computer only to snapped back into reality and blown away by your words. This one sent my head spinning. This one goes into my favourite file, no doubt about it. THanks for sharing.

Janet, I must agree with Michael on this one, definitely one of, if not, your most powerfully rendered piece

Ya know, I just realized I had been spelling Michael's name wrong all this time. Why didn't you tell me, huh?

From the lines of your poem
I can relate.
"Accidental acquaintances"
helped lead to a fate
of guilt and shame,
just because I felt free
to be with whomever
I wanted to be.
"Love's vows shouldn't be a life sentence or conviction ...
nor should it place passion and desire on restriction"
You couldn't have said it
any better or worse
I just wish my ex-boyfriend
would have lived by that verse.

i really like your poem
thank you for your thoughts and words.

Ah, but part of the problem in something like that is that the party "searching" doesnt always realize how many people they hurt..
Im stuck in the middle of one of those hurting problems now...

Cuddlez,
Love -- any human interaction -- inevitably causes pain. There's no point in villifying the "searcher" OR the "searchee." And what people tend to forget is with love, it's always both the people's faults for a breakup. Believe me, I know (and so do many). It's like when someone says "Why do I always get the jerk (wo)men?" The opposite (and equal) question is "Why are you ATTRACTED to those type of (wo)men?" I know, it's none of my business even talking about this, so I'll stop now. But I've been cheated on, and the relationship ended from it, and I don't love her any less -- I just can't speak to her ever again.
