A Drowning Cry Where am “I”, where have I gone, I’m lost, cannot be found ... I’m drifting ever deeper In this fog, where I am bound. Where once I floated softly, Just above the waters’ crest; I’m sinking ever deeper ‘Neath the waters, lost in breath. I struggle, losing consciousness, Kick frantically to try, To rise above the surface, Though I’m ever asking why? A feeble push will bring me to The surface where I gasp ... A momentary refuge From this God-forsaken wrath. I fill my lungs and soul with light, And pray to stay a'float; But lost and drifting, I can’t find One single rescue boat. Such helpless, hopeless visions Drift across this weary mind, My soul is getting tired of The answers I can’t find. I take a breath and slowly sink Beneath the waves, I bend ... Each time I wonder if I’ll find The strength to rise again. This blackness that envelopes me Tugs harder every time; Attempts to drag me to the depths, To break this will of mine. I cry, “Let loose your grip”, I plead ... Allow me some respite, From this my inner agony, My lonely, silent plight. Reach out to me, and hear my cry, Amongst the crashing waves; I’m drowning in this misery ... Lost hope, that I’ll be saved. /Kit McCallum PS...I'm fine, just having a really bad week  |

Kit, a very intense piece, that sent shivers down my spine. I am glad that you left that reassuring note at the end. Still take care, thanks for sharing. an excellent poem. Isn't it funny how, the worse our moods get, the more poignant our poetry becomes? Sadness, frustration or despair can be lousy feelings but they sure produce some wonderful poems. Here's one, for example.... |

Intense, poignant, powerful, emotive... I am sure all others before me have said these, so I merely ditto them on these words... and if I may add, I will call it a "Magical" piece, the magic being that this creates a release, a purge of the various futile thoughts from deep within...
