It's Only When We Sleep It's my surrounding air I breathe that has an everlasting light As with sweet leaves in the fall, a little clearness, but bright They last very briefly as the wind moves them to new ground Through the seasons, just a different year, but always they're found... It is only when we sleep we wake to look for something more But, look again and see those leaves, they're brighter than the day before Cause it's only when we sleep we find the world it doesn't rest That's when you'll find such solid faith and wonders at best... And, now I take all those leaves so full of color and life And, it shows me how we all become one with the night It is just the natural way for a brighter day But, never does the wind blow them completely away... It's only when we sleep do we find a greater love It's only when we sleep we find what real hearts are made of And, I take the thought of the leaves and what tomorrow will bring To find only when we sleep how strongly nature can sing... It's just to compare nature at what a strong soul can do It's all the same if you look at what the night can give you I've found that the outside still goes on inside when we leave to dream And, only when we sleep can I truly bring my friend to me... She's much like the leaves that fall before us every new year Like the promise of the seasons, she'll again be here So, it's only when we sleep that I hold onto those leaves What a feeling, together, and that autumn breeze... Like it's amazing proportions if you really look close How the leaves each hold it's meaning of their very own It's much the same when you find her; true meaning unfolds It's only when we sleep will we never face the bitter cold... It's only when we sleep do those leaves lie warm to the ground It's only when we sleep do I share that same feeling found It's only when we sleep that my heart never forgets This broken laugh, a thousand memories, but no regrets...
