Is there something I could have done To change this course I tread To have my soul feel light and free Instead of filled with lead Could I have changed what happened then And change things from what they are now I would do this in a heartbeat Oh, if I only knew how! If God granted me the chance To change one thing from my past I would make a change in you Make my love be returned, at last It’s been almost an entire month Since you’ve gone home to stay But I still have dreams of you And I stay up late to pray “God, take me back in time God, please change his heart If I knew he loved me It wouldn’t hurt to be apart” But if God did take me back To the time when you were here I still wouldn’t know what to say I would still have that old fear And even if I did know The perfect words to say Would it start to change your heart From how it is today? I guess that you can never change Things that are meant to be I guess this is another strand In the thread of life for me Even though I couldn’t say The words to change your heart I would love to have a moment When we weren’t apart I would just love to be there In the same room as you And, one last time, look into Your eyes of periwinkle blue If God would grant me one last wish The wish would be for you That you find someone that loves you The same way that I do You’ll be better to this girl Better than you were to me I know God has His reasons… But sometimes, they’re hard to see Maybe then, the pain I feel Will begin to cease Maybe someday, I will find Some kind of inner peace But for now, I still wonder What I could have done or said To change the path I walk upon To change the course I tread < !signature--> "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." -Oscar Wilde "The robbed that smiles steals something from the thief" -Shakespea [This message has been edited by LoveBug (edited 07-10-2000).] |

You will find love and inner peace my friend...with a heart as loving and wonderful as yours, I'm sure of that. Sorrowful work, but well written and I enjoyed the tinge of hope throughout it. You will find the peace and love you seek someday and I hope it is soon for you. You have a very loving heart and it shows in your poems. Someday the right person will see it in you with just a glance. Nice read and lots to think about in this one. |

Thank you for writing this, Beth. It has all the feelings that I feel, and they are so very well put. Someone once said to 'accept the thing I cannot change'........but that isn't so easy, and you phrased it so well.... Dont be afraid of the dark....behind it is the light.... |

Ah, what a wonderfully written poem we have here! Aura of sadness and pain tempered by hope created a rather unique mood.
