Fellowship, friendship, kindred hearts
Companion, confidante
Whatever noun you choose to use
It's sure to be pleasant.

But what is it that draw you near?
What qualitise do you share?
Friends can be most anything,
But real friends are quite rare.

True friends help you move ahead
Respect your boundaries
They're discreet with what you tell them
and you can be at east.

They should uplift and edify
Encourage you with love
They'd understand forgiveness
And be gentle as a dove.

They'd never mock your faith
Or jest at who you are
They would not turn their backs on you
But be loyal in their honor.

So who do you call friend?
What are their qualities?
Is their character that of good
Or those of tainted schemes?

And which of them stand out
As faithful and serene?
Which of them will tell the truth
When you sway or lean?

Your neighbor down the street
The ones who all play cards
Those you meet for fun and games
Or those of high regard.

Look for friends with courage,
Whose humbled hearts are pure
For they're the ones who will forgive
And in all things endure.

Seek out cheerful people
Those with self-restraint
Whose faith in God is strong and sure
Whose morals are not faint.
