I wonder what you’d call-
The frame of mind I find I’m in?
My spare time I spend thinking…
Of all that might have been.

A million miles of highway-
I’ve driven, maybe more…
While my hind-sight’s twenty-twenty,
I can’t see what lies before.

Another lonely business trip,
Another lonely room.
Another silent telephone…
Won’t break my lonely gloom.

I wonder why I cannot find…
Some peace within my heart?
I wonder why my foolish pride,
Must keep me set apart.

I know not where my path may lead-
Nor when my journey ends;
But this I know, I go alone…
I’ll leave no grieving friends.

Thanks for the chance to read and reply (and to vote )

Yes, I admit your general rule. That every poet is a fool:
But I myself may serve to show it. That every fool is not a poet.

T'would not be the thoughts
of a lonely man...if the man
gave thoughts to someone
greater than.

Grieving friends?...thats
what friends are for...
for without anyone to miss
you when you are gone...
it meant a lonely life
while you were here.
A vicious circle,
my friend!

Another great one that I get to vote for!

'I'll leave no grieving friends.'? I know you're mistaken on that one. Don't you be going anywhere, ya hear?

When your journey ends Gunslinger, you may not leave any grieving friends, but you will leave many grieving poetry admirers in Passions.
Ride on Cowboy poet, and may you have many more sunsets in that West Texas sky.
Enjoyed the poem!
