Freedom's Hues
~*Marge Tindal*~

Imagine if you will the shades of freedom
I think in Red - White - and Blue
Freedom sought at any cost
represented in many hues

From the dawn of early morn
on the shores lit by Southern Light
The flag still waves for freedom
over graves laid in the night

'Oh, say can you see'
a resemblance to being free
paid for in magnanimous cost
of the many lives that were lost

'By the dawn's early light'
the victories of the fight
Crosses standing row on row
in the field where poppies grow

'What so proudly we hailed'
when we pause to recall
the badges of courage
worn by them all

'At the twilight's last gleaming'
the teardrops are streaming
falling in memory tender
in infamy shall we remember

'Whose broad stripes and bright stars'
honors just who we are
freedom defenders
injustice menders

'Through the perilous fight'
searching for freedom's purest light
Leaving an honored part
of a patriot's heart

'O'er the ramparts we watched'
with diligent care
Freedom, oh freedom
are you still there

'Were so gallantly streaming'
the colors of our dreaming
of freedom's banner waving
on our hearts' engraving

'And the rockets' red glare'
tended us with care
as the vigil we pursued
the battle for freedom ensued

'The bombs bursting in air'
resounding the reason we were there
Fighting for the freedom
for all to share

'Gave proof through the night'
that freedom would see the light
Whatever the loss
Whatever the cost

'That our flag was still there'
gave us pause to be
among the land
we fought to free

'O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave'

Today is a moment to honor those
that gave their lives so it could be so

Marge, Thank you for reminding us all what this day has been set aside for. Sometimes we forget what independence really means. And far too often we overlook those fought and graciously died for our freedom.

So, again Thank you

Jeffrey~
Thank you for your reply.
This one means a lot to me.
As this day draws to an end it is my
wish that we all took time to remember
the cost of the freedom we enjoy.

Some special people passed through
my thoughts as I penned this one ...
so many fought for those freedoms
and I thank them from my heart.

From a man with many friends lost in battles of freedom I thank you for them, for me and for us.  You do us proud.  (The flag flies at my house 24/7/365 and is lit at night.)

Marge a wonderful poem for your independence day celebration. I'm sorry but excuse my ignorance as well because I'm not sure of what your celebrating independence from either but what I do know is that it means alot to you and your countrymen/woman and your poem signifies this patriotism.
Well done Marge

MY Lil' Lizzie~
Thank you, doll.
Your 'history lesson' was sent.
So pleased to see that you are eager for the knowledge.

Tracie~
Not ignorance from either of you ...
I'm pleased to have been asked to share the history of Independence Day and it's significance to the U.S.
My deepest thanks to both of you.

Seymour~
Your comment means more to me than you could possible know.  I thank you, my friend.
