1st Anniversary - Thank You Passionate Poets On July 4th 1999, I sat and wrote a little rhyme “Ode to Mikey” it was called And everyone was just appalled They said you should write poetry But it was all so new to me Then verses started pouring out Just like an endless water spout A few months later on the net I came across a site of poets Passionate poets of dream and wish They reeled me in like an old catfish I made some friends very dear to me I learned so much about poetry Hoot and Balladeer and Nan Explained things so I’d understand And many others encouraged me To write in face of adversity And there were some who were just teens Who inspired me to write my dreams This is an anniversary cheer I’ve been writing poems for just one year Thanks to you my poet friends Your talents and friendship have no end I’m so amazed by what you write You are for me a guiding light A place where I can find some peace A warm embrace and great Poetry Here’s to you, for all you’ve done For all the songs that you have sung For all the prayers and wishes, too All I can think to say is - Thank you! Liz, You are so graceful in whatever you write... Blessed with sheer talent for poetry, words just flow from your muse... And you say its been just a year of poetry writing... I can't possibly agree... I feel poetry has been your forte since your very existence... and many others here will happily second my opinion... You are so gracious too... saying thank you and all... Dear sweet Liz, I still recall the day nearly 6 months ago when I was new here and read one of your amazing poems in the Corner Pub...I beleive it was about a bird...and I was stunned with its imagery and grace... in your reply to my words of praise you told me you had only been writing for a few months and I was again stunned...I later went and read many of your back page poems and could not believe the talent and developement of your work. I had been taking a writers workshop class at the time and your work was way above the work of several English teachers in the class with me. Heck, it was far above the work of the teacher of the workshop who was heavily published. Some poets are discovered, some are taught, then there are the ones who are born. You have poetry flowing in your veins ... Happy Anniversary my kind, gentle poetic friend. Thank you for all that you have taught me about poetry, and about courage. PDV, Your resonse brought tears, because I just don't think of my poetry the way you do. I'm so pleased that you enjoy reading it, though and thank you. Martie, Poetry has been a great hobby and distraction for me during this past year, but greatest of all, it has brought me friendships, and that has been wonderful. Thanks for being such a faithful reader and keep writing your exquisite poetry Janet Marie, What an amazing response to this poem. If what you are saying is true, you should be teaching that course, because your poetry is wonderful. THank you, sweet poet for reading and responding to mine and to everyone's poetry. You have brought life to these forums. I may not post much anymore, but you have my e-mail address and can write any time and in the meantime, you show those English teachers how to do it! Love Liz |

Liz, you've come a long way but your words and the way in which you express your emotion haven't changed but I applaud your upbeat way of dealing with situations...I remember saying how when one gift if taken so another arrives and yours arrived in a wonderful style that is a favourite of us all and a plesaure ... Continue to share, you would be surprised how your way can lift us all from sad to happy, from happy to sad but always coming back for more... Only because you say it's so that you've only written for a year, strikes me with surprise you know, for you write without poetic fear. Dearest Liz, You are such a bright light in the forums. Ya know, I will always remember the poems you wrote for me: A reply to one of mine, the tranqility challenge and the lilac. You were the first ever person to write a poem for lil' ol' me. Your poetry has inspired me and uplifted me, given me much pleasure and moved me to tears. I can't believe you have only been writing for a year....just goes to show, your talent is in a class of its own! Well, I'm older than dirt and have been writing almost as long as I've been breathing... but I'll never possess half the talent, perception, grace, and imagination you weave into your words... I do, however, have the sense to appreciate genius. You may have taken your sweet time starting this poetic journey, but you define poetry, dear lady...
