Trail of Tears

Looking through the nursery window
A proud tear in his eye
Trying not to let them flow
A deep breath and a sigh

A Band-Aid for her knee
And a kiss to make it better
To his heart she holds the key
And every one of his love letters

The front row for graduation
Sobbing, holding her diploma
A car to say congratulations!
She's off to college in Oklahoma

He walks her down the aisle
And a with a long hug goodbye
For this, he’d walk a thousand miles
She’s on her own now, and needs to fly

She looks at the gravestone
Thinking over the years
And about all the love he’d shown
Turning, she leaves…
                        A trail of tears

Wonderful tribute to a father.  I know that pain accompanies this, but proud this man must have been.

Oh, Marina this is so heartbreakingly beautiful, a tribute to a life well lived and very well loved. Ellie

Beautiful poem and touching tribute to your father.  I feel the same way about mine.  This was really wonderful writing.  Just had to vote for it.

Lovely fitting tribute to a man I know you loved, and who loved you.
These were not just tears of saddness I think
but also tears of joy of knowing the love and
warmth I know you must have felt from him.
I too had a Father like that and there isn't a day goes by I don't think of him even though he has been gone many years. I thank God everyday he was mine if only for a while.

My dear, this is absolutely beautiful.  Like Jeffrey, I had to finish crying in order to be able to write these words.  You have totally taken my breath away.  Such a tribute to true love between a father and daughter -- this is beauty beyond words!
