('Praecipe' sounds like 'recipe'. It is a petition to the court requiring a response by the opposite party in a law suit.)

The praecipe is due today
Before this hour’s past
It must be finished, on its way;
The clock is flying fast.

Taut nerves are stretched a little more;
Seems stress is all you gain;
How much of this can you endure
Before you go insane?

Now finally the work is done
And on its way to court;
A time-stamped copy you have won
“All’s well”, you can report.

Another challenge will be faced;
This one thing don’t forget
Just keep your cool when life’s fast-paced
The challenge will be met.

How could I not read this one... *smile*
well written... now, could you type me up a writ of habeas corpus ad testificandum?
sorry.. hehe
truly did enjoy your poem though... I will show it to my secretaries... and they probably will say... she sounds like she has an ogre for a boss also...

just a tad of advice however... remember... old lawyers never die, they just lose their appeal...

Mike - One writ of habeas corpus whatzahoozie (on bond paper of course!) comin' right up! hehehe....that's cool, showing this to your secretaries, let me know what they say for real, 'cause I know that you're no ogre. Now on the other hand I won't be showing this to my boss 'cause he's very old. He wouldn't find your remarks very appealing! But I found them hillarious!

Balladeer - You do that and I'll have you pleading for more! hehehehe

Marge - Just petition me! Well, I have to go to work tomorrow but all the lawyers have off so it should be a somewhat relaxing day, after I get caught up with the month's worth of filing that was left for me by the woman who I replaced. Real sweetheart, huh? She gave 4 weeks notice and then stopped doing all her filing. And that's alot of filing, isn't it Mike?

Thanks for reading and for your wonderful comments!

Sunshine likes this one a lot
for all the above is what she's got
deadlines to meet, briefs to file
wading through discovery deep as a mile

exhibits to prepare, witnesses to prep
ahead of my lawyer I am by one step
subpoenaes to serve, witnesses to cajole
it's no wonder I feel my role

liens to waive, judges to call
ask any question, I don't know it all!

Denise, loved it!  It may have passed me by...are we perhaps sisters in the same profession?  E-mail me anytime...

meanwhile, a little boost to the top won't hurt this one at all...

I've been on the sending end of one of them there 'Praecipes'- because someone wouldn't respond to my petition. Talk about being on needles and pins, first waiting 30 days with no response, then filing (for an additional $1000) this thing so that a judge could force a response.  Pissed me off, it did!

Great poetic reply, Karilea! Love it! I am brand new to the legal field as a secretary. There isn't enough money in the world to pay me to be a paralegal, I don't know how you do it. It's all I can do to keep up with the typing and filing, binding and filing, retyping and filing, photocopying and filing for two, sometimes three lawyers. Today one secretary was on vacation and the receptionist was out sick, so I was working for three attorneys instead of my regular two and taking turns at the reception desk.
Talk about a day from hell. I'm glad you got a kick out of this!

Corinne, that's terrible. I'd be upset too. Them things can sure be expensive.

Thanks for reading and for replying!

Denise

Denise, I've got a great praecipe for beef stew which is a lot more soothing, and there's no time limit. You can come whenever your want
