**This poem is dedicated to all those women who use men for their money, cars, status and GQ model looks, unfortunately I have a few friends like this**

~FAIRY TALE SYNDROME~

You see him on his white horse in the distance,
with a glass slipper in hand,
and like a vain, ugly step-sister,
you trample over any fair maiden who dares to stand in the way
of his princely love,
his riches,
his glory
and his high rank,
longing to rub elbows with the elite
at the royal ball,
revering a twisted fantasy,
sacrificing your soul to wear the crown

Like the wicked Step-mother queen, you gaze into your mirror of illusions,
and sing to the reflection
"mirror, mirror on the wall who's the richest of them all,
a prince, who can't resist my womanly charms,
my beauty so breathtaking that when seen
he'll hand me his riches with open arms,"
but, when your mirror of vanity shatters,
revealing to your heart's dismay that their are others
who surpass your beauty and ruthless determination,
all you will hear
is the tick-tock, tick-tock
of the clock,
reminding you that midnight is drawning near,
racing against time to make an impression
to snag for yourself, a rich and handsome husband

My lesson is simple,
never marry a man for beauty and fortune,
and if you do,
it will be the hardest way of earning it,
for, you're only be living a lie,
living a short-lived happiness,
and soon your nose will grow like Pinocchio's,
leaving a princess alone to cry

Yes, you might say, that I'm your Jiminy cricket,
a wise friend, trying to make you see,
that magic wands, enchanted forests and
fairy godmothers don't exist,
that uttering bibbidi-bobbidi boo
will not transform a pumpkin
into magical coach
or your rags into a ballroom gown,
for, such hollow fantasies
will only lead you to the path
of poison apples

You may say that you do not desire such selfish pleasures,
but, deny this as you may,
deep down
your heart is always
waiting to snag a prince,
living a shallow dream,
living your life as a jaded fairy tale
that even Walt Disney
would not approve of
for animation

But, if you take heed
to the tale as old as time,
allowing Belle to be a shining example of a true woman,
for, she found her prince in a run down castle,
a hideous beast,
and fell in love with the beauty of his heart and soul,
allowing love to be her guide,
pure of heart,
pure of mind and intentions,
and loved for the sake of loving,
showing that true beauty lies within,
for, it was her tears of love that transformed him into a beautiful man

And, if you, close your eyes and sigh a deep breath
and pretend, for just a moment, that you are sleeping beauty,
then freedom will carry you away
with just one kiss,
for, this fairytales greatest lesson is the virtue of patience,
and at last, you will finally be Cinderella, romanced by true love's bliss,
and you and your prince will ride off into the sunset
to live happily ever after

A great read. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thank you Eagle One, I'm glad you enjoyed this poem.  I just had to write it because I am tired of women who only "love" men for superficial reasons. I believe in true love.

Take care,
Melissa Honeybee

Well Melissa I've got a couple three million in the bank and I was going to ask for your hand but, sigh, I guess I'll just have to go looking for one of those goldiggers. Very good words of advice. Great poem!

I know just what you mean.
Fairy god-mother's can do a number on you though.
That 'happy-ever-aftering' stuff can get real old - real quick !

Lots of 'princes' out there -
course you gotta kiss a lot of frogs
to find 'em !  Ewwww!

Thank you everyone!  And believe me, Rindercella, I've sure kissed a lot of frogs
Hopefully, someday I will meet my prince, oh Shawn Green, knight of baseball, where forth art thou

Studying animation in college I had to write an essay on stereotypes in animation, I remember reading about Disney women/ the young herione. she becomes involved in a situation in which she has little power over events, partakes in the events. She is passive generally the situation is resolved by the male. It is true that in Beauty and the beast that Belle's love save the prince. The curse is that some one should learn to love the prince not that he should learn to love someone. anyway i really rambling here.
Really enjoyed the poem, clever use of fairytales. excellent poem. this needs further reading so it goes into my library.

Melissa,
superb!!  This is just excellent. . . as a male, let me say that I have known women who are like this. . . and I wonder if they will ever know true happiness. . .

Wonderful poem!!  Well written. . .

One fairy tale word of mine comes to mind.
FANTASMAGICAL.  Both the beauty of the poem
and the message within.

Melissa~
Wise words sweetie...I would GIVE my everything for true love and a life of happiness with someone who truly loved me for me and not as some token...these woman will grow old and be ever so lonely who wants that?? not me I'll keep my house in the country and a husband who loves me greatly....Great read Melissa
