A Rose Would Never Be a Rose

I think that butterflies wouldn’t  fly
And rivers wouldn’t know where to flow
Pine trees would run out of cones
And autumn geese would bear the snow

The sun would not know when to set
The stars would simply fade away
A rose would never be a rose
And night would get confused with day

The ecosystems are so fragile
Everything is intertwined
A loss of one destroys another
In the course of nature’s time

I think that butterflies wouldn’t fly
A rose would never be a rose
If you weren’t here to balance out
The secrets Mother Nature knows

I think the world would be askew
And incomplete if not for you

Elizabeth Santos

Stop that!! How dare you make poetry look this easy!? At least have the decency to make it look like you have to work at it a little, ok?    (bowing deeply)

A lovely piece. It seems to have come so "natural" to you.
Why not send it to your favorite enviromental group for their enjoyment.

Liz,

What a wonderful poem with a wonderful message.  You are so right, we all play a very important part in keeping nature in balance.  We must all do our part.  Nice writing!!

This is so well done, Liz. The title grabbed me, so I had to read it. I loved the last two lines.

This is probably the best poem I have read for months, it is amazing the fact that when we thought it couldn't possibly get any better you proved us all wrong, and came up with this work or art .
I absolutely Loved this one .

I haven't read one of your poems in such a long time, I forget how good they are.  This is beautiful.

The tragedy of it is that nobody sees the look of desperation on my face. Thousands and thousands of us, and we're passing one another without a look of recognition.
