I stroll the cobbled paths within the shade
Provided by green leafy canopies
And nothing short of heaven could persuade
Me from my daily rest beneath these trees.
Spiked-heels and Suits parade by constantly,
The rush of work-a-day in sharp contrast
To nature’s calm. I’m lost in reverie;
On wings the lunch time hour flies by so fast.
This park is an oasis quenching thirst
For city folks who crave the country life;
The pressures of the day are soon dispersed
Releasing iron chains of urban strife.

In Rittenhouse Square Park I’d stay all day
If not for all the bills I have to pay.

Denise~
My pup and I spend many hours at a park such as you describe.  It's just heavenly.

Enjoyed the post.
I like the picture too !

Thank you, Prometheus (hehehe...I remember that show!), Rex, SpitFire, Marge, Balladeer (that's so funny, I was thinking as I was writing this that I would make a great bag lady..LOL), and Eloise (those bills do get in the way of life, don't they?!) for reading and for your lovely replies!

With so few words, you have described the place picture-perfect, Denise...

Great writing...

I'm a country boy and yes, parks are a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Loved the last two lines by the way

Denise-I'm so glad you have a place like this to go to, even just for awhile.  Try not to think of the bills while you're there. Lovely descriptive poem!

I think parks provide us with an escape from our daily lives. I liked this one a lot.

Thank you, Sudhir, Martie, Eric, Elizabeth and Dawn for reading and for your lovely comments! It is a lovely place! Especially on a hot day there's nothing like being under the cool of the shadey trees!
