wishes three

the stars are all who see as I
sit knees to chest
soft shirt pulled over
tucked under toes to
stay the chill for just a few
moments more and I
wonder where you are tonight and I
wait for you and I
wait for morn
and any more I wonder
just what it is I
am waiting for
despite my prayers
and wishes three
you do not appear
magically or otherwise
any more than morning’s
light brings something
other than the same old
missing you shuffle
to the kitchen for coffee
that I drink while I wait and I
wonder what the day will hold and
what it is I am waiting for
and just before daylights duties
take me from my missing you haven
I close my eyes and I
know how easily I would forego
the morning brew and
the pleasure of morn’s first light
if darkness’ magic spell
would only last long enough
to bring you unto me

Achingly sweet... bittersweet actually...

Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn.

I know how hard it is to wait. I like the work and especially how the title fits the material. Excellent!
